About Planet Spiti Foundation

The Planet Spiti Foundation (PSF) is a non-profit organization committed to providing a sustainable future for rural children in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. We aim to promote alternative education models and teach life skills that foster environmental conservation, sustainability, farming, gardening, and pottery from an early age.

Our primary focus is on empowering women and men by educating them about health, hygiene, and finances. We believe that if the entire community is not developed, education will remain a luxury rather than a necessity. That’s why we’re committed to creating opportunities for Spitian families to earn a livelihood and improve their quality of life.

PSF also strives to create a green, free residential school that provides a safe and supportive environment for students to grow and learn. Our school will be focused on providing quality education to underprivileged children, especially girls.

We understand that education is not just about academics but also about developing the whole person. That’s why we are dedicated to providing holistic learning experiences that will allow our students to become responsible and active members of society.

At PSF, we believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. We are committed to making a lasting impact in the lives of rural children in Spiti and Lahaul and creating a sustainable future for all.

Goals:

Our first goal at Planet Spiti Foundation is to provide quality primary education to every child in the Spiti and Lahaul district, regardless of their socioeconomic status. We believe that education is the key to ending poverty and breaking the cycle of social and economic disadvantage. By providing children with access to quality education, we can empower them to lead fulfilling and prosperous lives.

Our second goal is to empower women and men in the region by providing them with education and opportunities to earn their livelihoods. We believe that a thriving community requires equal opportunities for all members, regardless of gender. Through our programs and initiatives, we aim to create opportunities for women and men to learn, grow, and succeed.

Our third goal is to preserve the unique culture and environment of the Spiti and Lahaul district. We recognize the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and natural environment of the region for future generations. By promoting sustainable practices and environmental conservation, we aim to preserve the beauty and uniqueness of the region for years to come.

Objectives:

Our first objective is to identify and address barriers to education by developing and implementing innovative educational programs and initiatives. We recognize that there are numerous barriers to education in the Spiti and Lahaul district, including a lack of access to schools, resources, and funds. Through our educational programs and initiatives, we aim to remove these barriers and provide children with access to quality education.

Our second objective is to provide comprehensive healthcare and hygiene education to improve the overall health and well-being of the community. We believe that a healthy community is a prosperous community. By promoting hygiene and healthcare education, we can improve the health and well-being of the people of Spiti and Lahaul.

Our third objective is to promote sustainable practices and environmental conservation through education and advocacy. We recognize the importance of preserving the natural environment and promoting sustainable practices. Through education and advocacy, we aim to create a culture of sustainability and environmental conservation in the Spiti and Lahaul district.

Our fourth objective is to develop vocational training programs that provide the skills necessary for individuals to earn their livelihoods. We recognize that access to education is only one aspect of creating opportunities for individuals in the region. By developing vocational training programs, we can provide individuals with the skills necessary to earn their livelihoods and lead fulfilling lives.

Our fifth objective is to create safe and inclusive spaces for women to learn, grow, and lead. We recognize that women are often marginalized and face numerous barriers to education and opportunity. Through our programs and initiatives, we aim to create safe and inclusive spaces for women to learn, grow, and lead in the Spiti and Lahaul district.

Our sixth objective, Plastic Recycle Program, also called the ECO WARRIORS program, is aimed at addressing the issue of plastic waste in Spiti and promoting sustainable practices. We collect clean plastic and wrappers, which are then transformed into bags and other products using traditional charkha and handloom techniques. This not only helps reduce the amount of plastic waste in the environment but also provides a livelihood for local women who create these products. Our program promotes the use of eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic bags and supports local communities in generating income through sustainable practices. Join us in our efforts to create a cleaner and greener Spiti.
