FOUNDATION YEAR II is year-long free residential programme for 20 students from Spiti Valley aged 3-9:

  • For families with an alarmingly low annual income.
  • For children in classes Nursery, LKG, and UKG, Class I, Class II, and Class III.
  • For girl children who are seeking admission to school from an underprivileged background.

PSRS is also looking for 3-5 Class V, VI, and VII students for our LITTLE TEACHERS program who:

  • Belong to an underprivileged background in Classes V-VII.
  • Preference will be given to girl students.
  • Will stay at the PSF’s eco-village in the LITTLE TEACHERS quarters with free food and accommodation.
  • Will teach younger children in classes Nursery-III for 3-4 hours every day.
  • Will not be participating in any cleaning, washing, or cooking duties.
  • Will be entitled to a monthly salary that will be credited in their students bank account with the State Bank of India.
  • Will be tutored in the afternoon and evenings for their own studies and examinations conducted in partnership with a local school that is affiliated to the CBSE board. (All sponsored by Planet Spiti Foundation).
  • Will get transferred to the local school to continue with their studies upon reaching Class VIII for their further studies. PSF will help in the smooth transitioning for these bright LITTLE TEACHERS.

A typical day at the PLANET SPITI RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL will involve activities from Morning to Evening:

  • Basic English studies.
  • 2-3 hours classes to complete academic syllabus according to IGCSE board.
  • 1-3 hours classes for extra curricular activities such as gardening, cooking, baking, singing, dancing, sports, arts and crafts, etc.
  • Conversing with volunteers, staff, and teachers in English.
  • Science: solar energy, health, nature, environmental studies.
  • Responsibilities for running the campus and daily work hours work distribution.
  • Daily Morning talks about self development
  • Evening activities include traditional song and dance or a fun dance party; football, swimming, games, movie, etc.

Classes for the entire year: 

  • Spitian Geography and History
  • Spitian Literature and Language
  • English (Spoken and Written)
  • Computer Studies
  • Basic Maths
  • Library Hour
  • Workshops on first aid, art and craft, music and dance, etc.

Some more types of learning at PSRS: 

  • Traditional Spitian music and dance.
  • Managing the PSF eco-village along with teachers, staff, and the principal.
  • Daily work hour 
  • Ice Skating, Ice Hockey, Football, and other sports
  • Public Speaking 

Planet Spiti Residential School welcomes students from every religion, caste, gender, ethnicity, and region. Planet Spiti Foundation’s Primary Learning Centre has had Buddhists, and Nepali students from all parts of Spiti. 

Students are selected on the basis of :

  • Their family’s financial background, disadvantaged backgrounds including dropouts, children of single or disabled parents, child servants, orphans, low caste, etc.
  • Their own interest in this type of Alternative learning.
